Emergency Preparedness Week is May 7th to 13th in Cochrane

May 7, 2023 - May 13, 2023

For immediate release – Cochrane, AB.

This year, during Emergency Preparedness Week, Cochrane is encouraging residents to understand the risks in their community and take steps towards emergency preparedness.

Running May 7-13, Emergency Preparedness Week provides an opportunity for residents to reflect, understand the risks, and take steps toward preparation for potential emergencies. This year is a reminder that preparedness isn’t just about being ready for disaster but making preparedness a regularly practiced activity. Throughout the week, Cochrane will be sharing helpful emergency preparedness tips on social media and communications channels.

“Natural disasters may be beyond our control, but there are ways to reduce the risk and the impact of any emergency we might face. This week, residents can reflect on their personal/family emergency plans and take steps towards preparedness,” says Stacey Loe, Executive Director of Protective and Community Services, Town of Cochrane. “By taking concrete actions to be better prepared, residents can protect themselves and their families during emergencies.”

Cochranites can become better prepared to face a range of emergencies – anytime, anywhere. It is important to:

  • Know the risks – Although the consequences of disasters can be similar, knowing the risks specific to the community can help better prepare.
  • Make a plan – It will help know what to do.
  • Get an emergency kit – During an emergency, basic supplies will be important. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in an emergency.
