The Cochrane and Area Family Resource Network (FRN) is excited to partner with Staples and the Kiwanis Club of Cochrane to once again offer the Backpack Program.

Starting on Wednesday, August 17, the long-running program aims to ease the stress and costs associated with starting a new school year by providing students grades K through 12 with important back-to-school supplies. With the help of this program, gearing up for school doesn’t have to be so stressful.

To participate in the program, families must show proof of enrolment in a Cochrane or West Rocky View County school and GST documentation listing dependent children. Residents without proper documentation, can call to book an appointment with a resource worker at the FRN at 403-851-2265.

“Providing families with backpacks and school supplies helps remove some of the financial barriers that come with going back to school. We are so grateful for our community partners and donors who have helped bring the community together and make this all possible.”

says Wendy Farnsworth, FRN Coordinator.

In addition, on Tuesday, August 23 from 6-8pm, FRN and community partners are offering a free back-to-school event for all families, intended to help prepare for a successful school year. The event will be packed with fun activities, including information regarding available support and resources offered for families.

To register for the Backpack Program or to donate, please visit the FRN at 127 First Ave W or call 403-851-2265. Donations can also be made at Staples, 40 Quarry Street E.
