Cochrane Branches & Banks 2026 is back for its 28th year, and residents are invited to spend a spring morning planting trees, meeting neighbours and helping to restore one of our well-loved outdoor spaces.
This year’s public planting day takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 9am to noon at Mitford Park. This event is organized by the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee (CEAC) in partnership with the Town of Cochrane, and it is open to community members of all ages.
Bring the family, bring a friend, bring your co-workers or come on your own!
Event organizers note that they plan to plant an additional 1800 trees and shrubs to the Mitford area (expanding on restoration work completed last year), which means that there will be lots of little trees looking for good homes in the soil.
The planting effort actually begins a day before the public event, with schools and corporate volunteers (like Garmin & TransCanada Trails) helping to get things started.
For public volunteers, check-in begins at 9am on Saturday, May 23rd, with parking available at Mitford Park. Follow the pathway to the white canopy near the planting area.
If you are planning to come, be sure to dress for the weather because this event will go ahead rain or shine.
Bring your own gloves, a shovel or garden spade, sturdy footwear and a reuseable water bottle. Throwing sunscreen in your bag is never a bad thing either, and layers are your best friend if the forecast decides to be very Alberta about things.
Community members are being encouraged to register in advance through Eventbrite, helping the organizers to plan for supplies, refreshments and volunteer support. That said, if Saturday morning rolls around and you suddenly decide you wish to pitch in, still show up… everyone is welcome.
No expert gardeners required, just be willing to spend a few hours helping Cochrane grow a little greener, rally your people and head to Mitford Park on the 23rd of May. A morning of fresh air, community spirit and tree planting sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday!
