Last Friday (April 24) saw the Cochrane RCMP, Municipal Enforcement Officers and Fire Services members join in with the rest of Canada to honour their fallen and to pay tribute to the tragic events in Nova Scotia.
The tribute consisted of a brief reading of a poem written by Cpl. Watson (see below), in honour of Constable Heidi Stevenson and the others who were lost, a raising of the Canadian Flag, and a two minute moment of silence (all while maintaining physical distancing).
Word had spread quickly from east to west coast,
As we thought of each other and those we loved most,
We were glued to the tvs watching the news,
Now mourn our lost love ones but can’t fill the pews,
We remember today’s fallen and those from before,
Their smiles no longer to greet at our door,
But to keep in our thoughts each day and each night,
We’ll pick up the torch and continue their fight,
As we are all sheepdog and look after the pack,
Check in on each other and don’t turn your back,
For times like these we must stand up as one,
And continue the push forward as our jobs not done.
