I’ll begin by saying that I have been following the local Cochrane business QSpice on Instagram for awhile now, and I have always been intrigued by their drool-worthy food photos. Enough so, that I will also admit to making a few of Tammy’s recipes from the cookery without the QSpice. But when I did decide to order some QSpice, I was so happy I did!

Sweet . Salty . Sour . Bitter . Umami .
One spice fits all!

Umami (/uˈmɑːmi/), or savoury taste, is one of the five basic tastes (together with sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness) and includes characteristics of broths and cooked meats.

When you first open the Qspice packet, your nostrils are instantly met with an earthy aroma, with elements of fragrant herbs and a tangy-sweet undertone. So far on our Qspice food endeavours, we have made a Qspice seasoned ground sausage tomato sauce with pasta (our own recipe), Haldi Popcorn, lean ground beef burgers, the Signature Vinaigrette (see video above) and the Capped Salmon.

Qspice Capped Salmon
(as altered by Urban Casual)

3 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp Qspice
1/2 tsp 40 Below Mustard Sauce
1/2 tsp crushed garlic
1/4 tsp lemon zest
dab Sriracha
4 – 5oz Salmon Fillets

Mix all ingredients together and spread evenly over top the salmon fillets.

Bake on a parchment lined sheet at 425F for about 10-12mins depending on thickness.

Broil for 2 minutes more.

ENJOY!
