National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 19 to 25, 2026) is the perfect time to pause and recognize the people who keep a community moving forward, and this year Cochrane offered a powerful example of what that spirit looks like in action. The inaugural Cochrane Volunteer Fair, held at the Cochrane Ranchehouse on April 11th, welcomed nearly 500 attendees and brought together 56 local non-profit and community organizations in one place.
From one-time event support to long-term volunteer commitments, Cochrane’s first volunteer fair created a welcoming space for people to discover meaningful ways to give back, while helping local organizations build the volunteer capacity they need to keep serving our community.
Across Cochrane, volunteers help strengthen sports associations, arts groups, senior’s organizations, environmental initiatives, food support programs, community associations and wellness services. Their time, care and consistency are part of what makes Cochrane feel connected.
Town of Cochrane officials emphasized that same message after the fair, with Michelle Ambrose, Director of Parks & Active Living, Community Services, noting that “the event helped to create relationships that can continue making a difference long after the fair itself.”

Cochrane’s first volunteer fair showed that there is no shortage of places to lend a hand and no shortage of people willing to make a difference in our community.
