(Cochrane, AB) – Cochrane remains under a State of Local Emergency, allowing the municipality to request provincial funding, bring in resources to support our Emergency Coordination Centre and make important and necessary decisions to help navigate the incident as needed.
As a result of the water conservation efforts made by our residents and local businesses and water hauling from our neighbouring communities, we are seeing sustaining water reservoir levels.
“We are happy to report that things are moving in the right direction,” said Shawn Polley, Deputy Director of Emergency Management for the Town of Cochrane. “But we are not yet out of the woods yet. We still need to conserve water as we complete the necessary repairs and work to maintain adequate levels in our water reservoirs.”
Residents and businesses can use water to maintain health and basic hygiene, including washing hands, brushing teeth and cooking. Considering the collective actions and efforts to conserve, we can now also support the need for quick showers, an emergency load of laundry and dish washing.
Continue to only use water when necessary.
The Calgary YMCA has stepped up to help our residents and members of the Spray Lake Sawmills Centre by providing free access to all YMCA facilities. Individuals and families impacted by the crisis are welcome to access these locations free of charge for recreational use, showering, etc. as well as drop in programming and fitness classes during standard hours of operation.
Resident safety and the restoration of Cochrane’s water and wastewater systems remains at the forefront.
