The Town of Cochrane has brought the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) back for another year, offering eligible Cochrane residents help filing their personal taxes.

For over 15 years, both the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) have worked together to create a program that assists eligible residents, who have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Community volunteers are trained by the Canada Revenue Agency to provide tax assistance and to help residents access significant government benefits.

“This important service would not be possible without our community volunteers. The tax assistance provided empowers residents to save money and utilize all obtainable benefits, creating self-sufficiency. In 2021 alone, two volunteers assisted with the filing of over 490 tax returns, positively impacting hundreds of seniors, children and low-income individuals.”

shares Kim Krawec, Manager, Family & Community Support Services (FCSS).

The program is currently running until the end of April 2022.
