Cochrane locals and visitors will soon be rewarded for shopping locally and exploring local area attractions, thanks to the new Explore Cochrane App that is launching on November 2. The app will highlight local businesses, encourage people to visit, and reward purchases within certain businesses.

Created in partnership between the Cochrane Tourism Association and Cochrane Business Development,

“This is a great opportunity for both locals and tourists to find out about the amazing businesses and attractions we have in Cochrane, particularly in the dining and retail industries,” says Cochrane Tourism Executive Director Jo-Anne Oucharek.

App users can collect points at certain locations around Cochrane and then redeem them for special offers at specific spots. Collection and redemption spots will rotate regularly, keeping the experience exciting for the users and truly gamifying local exploration.

In preparation for the launch of the app, Cochrane Tourism is asking people to pre-register for the app in order to be entered into a draw for $250 Cochrane Dollars. All you have to do is visit www.explorecochrane.ca to sign up. The app is free to download.

“The Town is proud to support initiatives that encourage shopping locally and help strengthen our economy,” says Business Development Manager Mike Korman. “The release of the Explore Cochrane App ties in with other campaigns we have in place to promote business in Cochrane.”

Last month, Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) announced the platform for the app called Xperience Alberta that allows for communities across the province to access and customize the app. Cochrane is the first community in Alberta to sign up.

“We are thrilled that Cochrane Tourism recognizes that the Xperience Alberta App is a powerful tool for engaging residents and visitors in a way that drives them to local businesses, events and attractions,” says Leann Hackman Carty, EDA CEO. “As the exclusive provider of this app platform, we are committed to helping all Alberta communities to inspire people to spend their time and money at home; important now more than ever given the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on local economies.”

An official launch will take place on November 2nd.
