On Saturday August 15th, Local Royal LePage realtors and Cruise Cochrane are partnering on a fundraising car cruise to raise funds and awareness for Big Hill Haven.

“Domestic violence is something none of us want to think about, “says Jim Messner of Cruise Cochrane. “But domestic violence cases have skyrocketed, expecting to rise 30 – 50%. Many women and children have no place to go, no safety net. Big Hill Haven fills this void. When we heard the call for help we decided we have to do something.”

Car enthusiasts are invited to bring out their hot rods, muscle cars, custom cars and trucks, to join the “Cruz-4-Her” and spend a day cruising for a great cause.

>>> The fundraising cruise is set to roll out on August 15 at 10 a.m. and will tour from Cochrane, through the Highwood Pass, and wrap up in Black Diamond.

“We really appreciate the support of Royal LePage and Cruise Cochrane in raising awareness and funds for Big Hill Haven. The Cochrane RCMP reports over 550 spousal abuse incidents last year, which was an increase of 14% for the Town of Cochrane specifically. Sadly, domestic violence is a part of Cochrane’s reality. Fundraisers like “Cruz-4-Her” help us to help women in need,” says Tara McFadden, Fund Development & Public Relations Officer for Big Hill Haven.

>> With a goal of raising $15,000, participation is by donation and tax receipts will be issued.

>>> Registration is capped at 100 vehicles and the event will conform to public safety regulations.

>>>Prizes will be awarded, including for highest fundraiser.

>>> Sponsors are being sought to support the event.

About Big Hill Haven Big Hill Haven was founded in 2016 in order to address the lack of safe shelter and resources for women fleeing or living with domestic violence in Cochrane and area. It is the sole organization with the mandate to respond specifically to women domestic violence issues and serves a region consistent with the Cochrane RCMP detachment. This includes Cochrane, Morley, Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, Springbank, and Ghost Village, among other communities: altogether, a population of over 50,000.
