The “Cruz-4-Her” charity cruise in support of Big Hill Haven was a roaring success. Over $6,000 was raised a few weekends ago, as car enthusiasts and bikers hit the road to raise awareness and funds to address domestic violence in Cochrane and Area.

“It was a great day, great people, for a great cause,” said Jim Messner of Cruise Cochrane, one of the event organizers.

The fundraising cruise was a partnership between Cruise Cochrane, local Royal Lepage realtors through the Royal Lepage Shelter Foundation, and Big Hill Haven. The event was sponsored by Spray Lake Sawmills and Cochrane Toyota.

“What a treat it was to share the road with the incredible cars, while supporting and bringing awareness to Big Hill Haven,” said Debbie Leah, local realtor and board member of Big Hill Haven.

Over forty vehicles toured from Cochrane through the scenic Highwood Pass as part of the cruise with participants coming from as far away as Edmonton to support the event. “Cruz-4-Her” is planned to be an annual event in support of Big Hill Haven.

“Thank you to everyone who participated, sponsored, and supported the first “Cruz-4-Her”,” said Tara McFadden, Fund Development and Public Relations Officer for Big Hill Haven. “Events and public support make all the difference in Big Hill Haven’s ability to help women escape domestic violence and live healthy and safe lives.”
