The Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) is pleased to announce their selection of the Cochrane Historical and Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) as Parade Marshal for the 56th Annual Labour Day Parade to be held Monday, September 2, 2024 in Cochrane.
CHAPS was formed in 1999 by residents and the mayor at the time, Lydia Graham. They are proudly celebrating 25 years. CHAPS’s mission statement is to identify, preserve, protect, and educate the public about historically significant properties and buildings in Cochrane, Alberta.
As this year is the inaugural Cochrane Discovery Days, celebrating the history of our community begins with recognizing and thanking those who have preserved it for our future. August 5th saw CHAPS celebrate its milestone with an event at their Cochrane Historical Museum in Cochrane Ranche. This included the opening of the Westerson Cabin and the unveiling of a beautiful carving from Widahl Woodcraft.
The Museum, Cochrane’s hospital from 1909 to 1916, was purchased and moved by CHAPS in 2014 to save it from the Hwy 1A construction. In addition to operating the Museum, CHAPS protects and archives historic artifacts, places descriptive plaques by historic buildings, and gives popular presentations on Cochrane’s history.
Please join us in congratulating the Cochrane Historical and Archival Preservation Society as we shine a spotlight on them and their quest to preserve Cochrane’s long-standing heritage.
The annual Labour Day Parade will be held Monday, September 2 at 10 am in Cochrane. Pre-Parade
entertainment begins at 9:00 am.
CAES is excited to announce a route change this year! The Parade will begin on River Ave, travel west on
Railway Street to 5th Ave, cross the tracks at 5th and travel east on 1st back to River Ave. Businesses in
this area have patiently waited for construction to be completed and would welcome the extra traffic
the parade will bring.
Anyone wishing to volunteer at the event is welcome to Sign Up on our parade page. Click on the Labour Day Parade tab for the volunteer sign up. There is still time to enter a float in the Cochrane & Area Events Society Annual Labour Day Parade this year.
