TOWN OF COCHRANE RECOGNIZES NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
Cochrane, AB – The Town of Cochrane will be closing municipal operations on September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
To honour the importance of this day, the Town of Cochrane is closing all administrative operations on September 30 including the RancheHouse, Operations Centre, Family Resource Network and Family and Community Support Services, and Eco Centre. Waste collection services will operate as scheduled.
“As the Town sets aside time to honour and reflect on the day, we encourage the community to do so as well,” said Mayor Jeff Genung. “This is a time for us to come together as a community to honour survivors, their families and their communities. And to ensure that the public commemoration of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.”
The Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge will be lit orange in commemoration of this statutory holiday.
In making the determination to fully support the intent of the statutory holiday, Administration reflected on both the Town’s Human Resources Administrative Directive and Teamsters collective agreement which state that the Town will honour any federally named general holiday. This was extended to staff who are members of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) union.
