There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread wafting through a home. In Cochrane, that authentic, warm aroma is coming straight from the kitchen of Golden Loaf Bread, a local home-based bakery that is redefining what it means to eat “fresh.”

We sat down with Maryna, the heart and soul behind the bakery, to learn more about her 13-year-old sourdough starter, her family-centered approach, and why she insists on handing over every loaf while it’s still warm from the oven.
Q: What was the inspiration behind starting Golden Loaf Bread in Cochrane?
Maryna: At the heart of my work is a simple yet meaningful idea: to give bread while it’s still warm—fresh from the oven. I wanted to create something that nourishes not just the body, but the soul as well. Each loaf is baked in our family kitchen, where children laugh and music plays. It’s about bringing that authentic, warm feeling of home to our neighbours in Cochrane.
Q: We hear your sourdough starter has quite a history. Can you tell us about it?
Maryna: Yes! We bake exclusively with a live sourdough starter that is over 13 years old. We don’t use any commercial yeast or take any shortcuts. It’s just flour, water, and a lot of love and patience. That long fermentation process is what gives our bread its unique flavour and makes it easier to digest.
Q: Your menu has some very creative flavours. What are some of the favourites?
Maryna: We love experimenting with different ingredients!

Some of our most popular loaves include:

Sun of Tuscany: A white sourdough with sun-dried tomatoes and garlic.

Golden Onion: Featuring sweet, caramelized onions.

Mozza Love: For the cheese lovers, this one is packed with mozzarella.

Chocolate Night: A decadent treat with cherries, pistachios, and dark chocolate.

Buckwheat Soul: A unique loaf made with cooked buckwheat groats.
Q: How does the ordering process work for someone who wants to try your bread?
Maryna: Since every loaf is naturally fermented and baked fresh in my home kitchen, I usually accept orders 24 – 36 hours in advance. You can place an order by sending me a direct message on Instagram or Facebook, or simply by sending a text message to my mobile at +1 236 513 1475. I always recommend messaging ahead of time so I can reserve a spot in the oven for your loaf.
Q: Where can people find you for pickup?
Maryna: I am located at 35 Precedence Green in Cochrane. My goal is to hand over the bread while it’s still warm from the oven, so we coordinate pick-up times to make sure you get that “straight from the heart” experience.
