Residential street cleaning in Cochrane officially starts Monday, May 4. Due to the operational impacts of COVID-19, the Town is asking for extra cooperation this year.
Each subdivision will be scheduled for a block of three days to ensure a thorough sweep and to allow flexibility for weather or mechanical delays. Sweeping will not occur on your regular waste and recycling collection days.
Residents are asked to find alternate, off-street parking while their street is scheduled for sweeping. Please use driveways, alleys and parking lots where possible.
“We know Cochranites appreciate clean and safe streets,” says Mayor Jeff Genung. “Considering so many more people are currently at home, asking folks to find alternative parking for a few days may be a challenge, but we’re trusting they can help with moving vehicles as we go, so our crews can do the same great job residents have come to expect,” continues Mayor Genung.
Notification signs will be placed at neighbourhood entrances 48-hours prior to cleaning with details for that area. Entrance signs will be removed when sweeping is complete and on-street parking can resume.
Residents are also asked to move curb ramps, hockey and basketball nets. These contravene Cochrane’s Traffic Bylaw and restrict the work of Town crews. Hockey and basketball nets should always be on private property.
Street sweeping does create significant dust, so closing your windows during scheduled sweeping days may be beneficial.
