HIRING: Food Rescue Coordinator

WAGE: n/a + PT 20 hours per week for 12 months with potential for extension and/or transition to a permanent position. M to F, with some weekend availability. Hybrid working model requiring work from home/HH office/ remote work.

  • ABOUT THE ROLE –
  • Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area (HHSCA) links people who help, with people who need help. In doing so, the organization contributes to making Cochrane and surrounding areas a vibrant, caring and supportive community. If you are passionate about helping people and want to build on the successful team and programs already in place, we want you to join our team.
  • We are seeking a Food Rescue Coordinator (FRC) to join our team and further grow our capacity as a food rescue organization. The FRC will oversee our daily food rescue initiatives, repurposing local food waste into a food security solution available to anyone facing hunger; accomplishing this work with a team of volunteers. This role is centered around the concepts of mutual aid, reciprocity, and community resilience.
  • The successful candidate will be a friendly leader, interacting with volunteers, community members, and clients with kindness and empathy. Ideally we are looking for someone local to Cochrane or surrounding areas, with a strong sense of community engagement and connection. The candidate will be organized, with strong time management skills, but also willing to pivot and stay flexible as priorities change. Reliability and consistency will be critical in this role, as our Free Food Sheds are in high demand.
  • Responsibilities include:
  • Volunteer management, communication, and scheduling
  • Food rescue from local grocers, restaurants, etc.
  • Sorting, storing, and stocking of the daily rescue
  • Ensure the sheds are properly cleaned and sanitized
  • General shed maintenance – ex. Seasonal issues, dealing with contractors, etc.
  • Daily logging of data collected: food rescue totals, relevant volunteer data
  • Driving and caretaking of the Helping Hands Van
  • Continual seeking of food rescue initiatives and relationships
  • The successful candidate will:
  • Confidentiality is required, with a respectful and sensitive approach to the workload and daily interactions
  • Fluency in English (oral, written and spoken) mandatory
  • Alberta Food Safety Basics Certification
  • RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License, clean driver’s abstract and current Alberta vehicle insurance
  • Heavy lifting is required, up to 50lbs
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Knowledgeable in office computer technology
  • Reliable personal vehicle for work usage, mileage to be reimbursed
  • Reliable home office space
  • Other Preferred Assets:
  • General knowledge of Google Suite is an asset
  • General knowledge of Better Impact Volunteer Management Software is an asset
  • Experience volunteering or working with non-profit organizations
  • Food industry background is preferred, not required
