DESCRIPTION:Cochrane is excited to introduce the first Community Tree Fruit Round-Up\, a community-driven event designed to help residents clean up their yards and donate surplus fruit. Fallen fruit that has hit the ground will help support injured or orphaned animals at the Cochrane Ecological Institute\, while fruit picked from the trees will be redistributed to local food banks\, including the Cochrane Food Bank\, the Îyâhrhe Nakoda Food Bank\, and the Helping Hands food shed. \nThe event will take place on August 31\, September 14\, September 28\, and October 5\, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.\, at the Town of Cochrane Lagoon\, 141 Bow Bend Way. \nThis initiative encourages residents to mitigate wildlife attractants by harvesting edible fruit from their trees\, thereby preventing potential nuisances and hazards associated with ripe fruit attracting wildlife such as bears. “Once fruit ripens\, it often falls to the ground and becomes a mess on sidewalks\, properties and other urban areas\,” remarked Trish Kluane\, Manager of Parks and Open Spaces. “Participation in this event empowers residents to proactively manage these issues while supporting community well-being and local wildlife.” \nResidents are encouraged to gather both fallen and picked fruit from their trees and deliver it to the designated bins at the collection site on the specified event dates. Decorate your home\, window\, patio or yard to spread holiday cheer.\n2. Submit a nomination form between December 1-12. You can nominate your own home or a neighbor’s.\n3. Explore the festive displays using the virtual map starting December 16 at Cochrane.ca/merryandbright.\n4. Vote for your favourite display between December 16-20 through the online voting form. \nAward categories\nParticipants can enter one of three festive categories: \n• Best Traditional Lights Display: Honoring timeless holiday charm.\n• Best Small Display (Garden\, Patio\, Window): Celebrating creativity in compact spaces.\n• Best Large Display (Full Yard/House): Recognizing impressive and expansive decorations. \nCelebrate the season\nOn December 16\, the Cochrane GIS team will release a virtual map highlighting all the nominated displays. At Mixed Media Night\, kids will dive into the exciting world of spin art and fluid art\, using vibrant paints and fun techniques to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces. \n🎨 Spin Art: Watch their faces light up as they experiment with spinning canvases\, creating mesmerizing patterns and bursts of colour. \n🌈 Fluid Art: They’ll pour\, tilt\, and swirl paints to craft stunning abstract designs\, exploring how colours blend and flow in fascinating ways. \nThis hands-on evening is all about discovery\, self-expression\, and a little mess (don’t worry—we’ll take care of cleanup)!
