DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE OUTHOUSE RACES\n\n\nThe Cochrane Outhouse Races will take place in historic downtown Cochrane on September 22nd 2024 where teams from local businesses and organizations push homemade outhouse race carts down First Street\, chuck wagon-style. \n​ \nAll outhouses must have a toilet inside\, four people from the team will push\, and a fifth will ride on the “throne” inside. This year\, only runners can turn the cart; the rider is just along for the ride\, and riders must wear helmets. We welcome any creative interpretations of these basic rules! \n​ \nTo register\, each team contributes a donation\, with all proceeds donated by the Rocky Mountain Rotary Club to local organizations in need. The benefactor each year is announced in advance and recognized at the event itself. \n​ \nThe generosity of our community is remarkable\, making this quirky event a draw for visitors from far and wide\, always bringing laughs and friendly competition. DESCRIPTION:Cochrane is excited to introduce the first Community Tree Fruit Round-Up\, a community-driven event designed to help residents clean up their yards and donate surplus fruit. Fallen fruit that has hit the ground will help support injured or orphaned animals at the Cochrane Ecological Institute\, while fruit picked from the trees will be redistributed to local food banks\, including the Cochrane Food Bank\, the Îyâhrhe Nakoda Food Bank\, and the Helping Hands food shed. \nThe event will take place on August 31\, September 14\, September 28\, and October 5\, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.\, at the Town of Cochrane Lagoon\, 141 Bow Bend Way. \nThis initiative encourages residents to mitigate wildlife attractants by harvesting edible fruit from their trees\, thereby preventing potential nuisances and hazards associated with ripe fruit attracting wildlife such as bears. “Once fruit ripens\, it often falls to the ground and becomes a mess on sidewalks\, properties and other urban areas\,” remarked Trish Kluane\, Manager of Parks and Open Spaces. “Participation in this event empowers residents to proactively manage these issues while supporting community well-being and local wildlife.” \nResidents are encouraged to gather both fallen and picked fruit from their trees and deliver it to the designated bins at the collection site on the specified event dates.
