DESCRIPTION:Dip your toes (or paintbrushes) into plein air painting and learn to make the landscape that you see real in your paintings. \nWhat IS Plein Air Painting? \nEn plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”\, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light\, color and movement into their works. \nDate: May 24th\, 2025 \nLocation: Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park (please meet at pathway entrance to the park). \nTime: 9:30 AM -11:30 AM | Meet at 9:00 AM at the picnic tables by the parking lot. \nCost: $25.00 \nAudience: All Ages! \nAttire: Dress for being outside. Warm layers\, sunscreen\, etc. Pack water or something warm to drink. \nNOTE: This workshop is subject to inclement weather and in that case may be moved to the Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery Workshop space. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION \nWhat Students will Learn \nLearn to make the landscape that you see real in your paintings. \nStudents will learn how to compose a painting\, establish a strong base design and an approach to detailing and finishing. \nThe goal of the class is for each student to take home a painting they can be proud of. \nThe format for the class will be a demonstration of painting stages\, with most of the time focused on each individual student’s painting. \nWhat Students Need to Bring \nEach student will be responsible to bring: \n\nYour choice of paint (oil\, acrylic\, watercolour etc…)\n– 2 each of the primary colours red\, blue and yellow | 1 x white\nSmall to medium sized canvas or board.\nBrushes: a mix of brushes\, including a larger ½” wide brush.\nPalette and palette knife to mix paints.\nAn easel if you want to stand.\nA few reference photos of your favourite scenes.\n\nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR \nStephen trained and worked professionally as an Architect for 30 years. More recently he has turned his attention to Landscape painting\, and has been active in this genre for over 3 years. Stephen has received a number of awards and recognition for his work.
