Alexander \nDr. Shelley Alexander is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Calgary. She has over 30 years of experience studying wolves and coyotes. Shelley founded the Canid Conservation Science Lab. Embracing the principles of Compassionate Conservation\, her research spans ecology\, ethology\, epidemiology\, ethics\, and coexistence (@canid_lab). She founded the flagship coexistence program UCalgary Living with Wildlife (https://research.ucalgary.ca/wildlife). Shelley has provided expert review on wild canid behaviour for international communities\, courts\, and contributes regularly to the media on best coexistence practices. \n‍ \nJo-Anne Oucharek \nJo-Anne Oucharek is an award-winning wildlife photographer. Capturing moments has always been a part of her life. When she moved to Cochrane in 2014\, she brought my camera out of retirement. It marked the beginning of a new photography adventure. It was the birds that inspired “Nature in my Backyard”! This new journey opened her eyes to the beauty and nature that surrounds us in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Her adventures are usually close to home\, but over the past couple of years\, her backyard has expanded\, travelling to other provinces\, the US and Africa to capture amazing birds and wildlife stories. Jo-Anne is passionate about sharing her adventures through the stories behind the lens. Her hope is the images captured from these adventures provide insight into the compelling stories of the animals she is fortunate to spend time with in nature. \nThe past 10 years have been a learning experience. A big part of my journey is connecting with like-minded photographers who believe that nature comes first. We are privileged to have such a variety of wildlife so close to home. When we get to see wildlife in their natural environment\, it is truly a gift!

DESCRIPTION:FUSED GLASS HOLIDAY ORNAMENT WORKSHOP \nSNOWFLAKE & TREE DESIGNS \nFULL DETAILS BELOW \nCost: $120.00 per person \nPrice includes: \nall prepared glass materials\, instruction\, design guidance and kiln firing\nParticipant Capacity: 8 \n*Age Requirement: 18+ (see note below for school-aged children) \n*School-aged children 10+ welcome\, but must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. \nLOCATION \nRoute 22 Artist Collective Gallery \n312 Fifth Ave #18 \nCochrane\, AB \nT4C 2E3 \nDESCRIPTION \nCreate two beautiful fused glass holiday ornaments in this workshop. Participants will decorate a precut snowflake and precut tree design. \nDESIGN OPTIONS \nParticipants will be provided with TWO pieces of glass to decorate using a variety of accessory glass\, pebbles and crushed glass pieces. No cutting involved. \n– ONE clear precut snowflake \n– ONE clear precut tree \nDecorated pieces will be taken back to my studio in Cochrane for kiln firing. Using a “tack” fuse technique\, your ornaments will emerge from the kiln with a beautiful textured finish. \nProject will be fired in my studio and available for pickup within 7 business days after the workshop (directions will be provided to my studio). \nREGISTRATION & PAYMENT \nREGISTRATION FOR EACH WORKSHOP IS HELD WITH PAYMENT IN FULL. Registration is complete once payment has been made. In the event of the workshop being cancelled by Haven Glass Studio\, a full refund will be issued. \n​ \nCANCELLATION & NO-SHOW POLICY \nGlass is cut and materials are prepared in the week prior to the workshop. Glass can be hazardous without the proper use of PPE. \nDepending on the task\, I routinely use high quality safety glasses\, respirators\, disposable dust masks and gloves\, work gloves\, face shields and hearing protection in my studio at all times and each workshop will adhere to the same safety protocols. \nThis workshop uses glass shards/fine glass particulates. The following safety PPE is required and will be provided: \n​​​SAFETY GLASSES: Required at all times. Glass shards and crushed glass can cause eye injuries from flying particles.\nPARTICULATE DUST MASK: Required when working with any type of crushed or powdered glass or other particulate matter. Glass creates fine particulate matter that can linger in the air. Exposure to dust inhalation can cause serious and permanent damage to your lungs.\n​GLOVES: Required when reaching into glass shard containers. Glass shards can cause skin lacerations from sharp edges.\nDRESS CODE \nClosed toed shoes and long pants required. \nLIABILITY WAIVER \nEach person will be required to sign a waiver/release form to participate\, which will be provided at the beginning of the workshop. \nILLNESS DISCLAIMER \nFor everyone’s safety\, if a participant or participant’s close contacts are displaying ANY symptoms of FLU\, COLD or COVID-19\, including symptoms such as pink eye (conjunctivitis) as supplies and tools are shared\, the participant is asked not to attend. Please contact Haven Glass Studio directly and the workshop fee will be fully refunded or the project can be made into a “Make-At-Home” Glass Fusing Kit* to be completed off-site and returned to my studio for kiln firing. \n*For alternative “Make-At-Home” Fusing Kit option: a portion of the ticket fee will be refunded as participant will not complete project in person. \nADDITIONAL INFO \nIMPORTANT: Project may not be changed or modified\, as all materials are prepared prior to the workshop. It would be too difficult to accommodate all special requests and could potentially result in wasted materials. As my workshops will start promptly at the scheduled time\, I ask that all participants please arrive a minimum of 10 minutes early. \nAll participants will use white glue to adhere their design to the base glass. Only a small amount is required\, so the glue dries quickly and will be dry enough to transport by the end of the workshop day. Projects will then be transported to my studio for firing using a non-slip mat to ensure projects don’t move during transport. The glue residue burns off in the high temperatures of the kiln and doesn’t affect the outcome of the final fired project.

SUMMARY:Art in the Park: Plein Air Paint Out - September 24-29\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Artists will have an exciting opportunity to participate in the Come Paint Alberta Plein Air Circuit by registering for this fun\, six-day event organized by the Route 22 Artist Collective! \nFor this upcoming Art in the Park\, we are opening up the week leading up to September 29th to allow plein air artists more time to paint during the opening hours of the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation. This will help accommodate busy artists and/or unpredictable weather. Artist will be required to have their canvas supports stamped with the official CPA stamp at the Route 22 Gallery during gallery hours before heading out to plein air paint. \nArtists will receive their swag bag and can enjoy a continental breakfast on the morning of September 28th at Route 22 Gallery! Artists will then head to the historic Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (GRPF) to set up for some inspiring plein air painting. GRPF golf carts will be assisting with shuttling artists and their materials around the park. The GRPF tourist center will be open\, but it is advisable to bring a packed lunch and water bottles as there are no other food services on site. \nParking at Glenbow Ranch Park is limited\, so carpooling with a fellow artist from the Route 22 Gallery parking lot is also highly recommended! \nRegistration for this event includes:\n– Complimentary tote bag from one of our sponsors\, Cochrane Tourism\n– Complimentary Continental Breakfast on Sept. 28th\, Saturday Morning @ Route 22 Gallery (8-10am)\n– One ticket for the Artist Soirée event on Saturday\, September 28th (5-8pm) at Route 22 Gallery\n– Eligibility to submit plein air artwork to the 1st Annual Year-End Round-Up & Live Art Auction on Sunday\, September 29th (2-6pm) at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15\n***artist commission is 60% of the hammer price\, and remaining proceeds will go towards supporting programs at Route 22 Gallery and Come Paint Alberta**\n– Complimentary 1-year Support Membership to Route 22 Gallery (value of $20)\, which includes a 10% discount code for Route 22 Gallery workshops!
